The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Kamar Olowoshago has charged the staff of the Lagos State Drivers' Institute (LASDRI) to collectively chart a new course of action that will improve and move public transportation in Lagos State to greater heights.

He gave the charge on Saturday at the institute annual Training the Trainers Workshop with the theme, "Equipping LASDRI Staff with Vital Tools for Effective Service Delivery", held at STO Conference Centre, Alausa, Ikeja.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the staff training was convened in fulfilment of the government passion to improve the transport sector as envisioned in the Traffic Management and Transportation Pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda.

He added that the training of the staff is essential for the staff to gain more knowledge and skills that will, in turn, enhance their service delivery to the motoring public.

"You can't give what you don't have, so there is a need for you to be retrained to be able to guide others because Professional Drivers that are not well trained and recertified will have a negative effect on the roads as well as on traffic and transportation management", Olowoshago noted.

He, therefore, charged the participants to use the opportunity to gain more knowledge that will help in discharging their mandate and responsibilities.

Earlier in her welcome address, the General Manager of the Institute, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, stated that the training event was a testimony of the Lagos State Government resolve and determination to evolve a dedicated and vibrant 21st Century workforce, noting that the event will add credence to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration pro-activeness in seeking improvement in an individual organisation capacity to perform better.

She further stressed that the present administration has demonstrated a keen interest in the service platform of the institute by its human face policy initiative and quick response to the needs of the institute, which has in no small measure turned around the agency and restored the confidence of the motoring public in the services rendered by the institute.

Admonishing the participants to see their coming together as an interactive forum designed to strategically reposition the institute and its core stakeholders, Mrs. Tiamiyu said the exercise was also to engage regulatory agencies to enhance road traffic and public safety in Lagos State.

She urged all the participants to use the opportunity of the training to join hands with the Lagos State Government and unlock the potentials of the institute to tackle the associated problems bedevilling public transportation.
