In line with the directive of the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, that all drivers in the employment of the State Government must undergo mandatory training/recertification exercise towards updating their skills, Lagos State Drivers Institute (LASDRI) has recertified 73 Professional Drivers in the State Public Service.
Addressing the participants at a one-day training held at the Institute headquarters in Oshodi, the General Manager of LASDRI, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu said the purpose of the mandatory training was to ensure that Professional Drivers in the employment of the State Government are well trained and schooled in the art of decent driving.
She added that drivers needed to know that transportation is key to the development of a Mega-City such as Lagos State, as such they should see themselves as an important part of the Greater Lagos vision.
While advising the participants to always ensure that they are in a good state of health, the General Manager informed them that part of the requirements for Professional Drivers are physical fitness and mental balance, hence the Aerobics session was factored into their training programme in addition to other screening tests.
Tiamiyu charged the seasoned trainers of the Institute to expose the participants to all the technicalities and etiquettes involved in the art of driving while also admonishing the participants to be attentive and key into the message as much as they needed to be better drivers.
She called on other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) yet to send their drivers to the Institute to be part of the moving train so that they can benefit from the training programme at the Institute.
Recall that the Institute has earlier trained Convoy Drivers in the Office of the First Lady, Professional drivers from the Lagos State Ministries of Justice, Health as well as Information and Strategy among the MDAs who have already benefited from the programme.
