In line with its mandate and social contract to Professional Drivers plying Lagos roads, the Lagos State Drivers' Institute has tasked stakeholders to ensure that all professional drivers are retrained and recertified to improve sanity and safety on Lagos roads.
The General Manager of the Institute, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, stated this while addressing participants at an on-site Training and Eye Test organised by Institute for the Professional Drivers registered under the Allied Trucks Transporters Association of Nigeria (A.T.T.A.N) at Iyana-Ipaja Motor Park.
Admonishing the participants on "Drivers' Responsibilities", Mrs. Tiamiyu said there is an urgent need for all drivers plying Lagos roads to embrace and familiarise themselves with the various road signs and directions erected to enhance free flow of traffic while road rehabilitation is being carried out by the State Government.

She said, "Good eyesights are very vital when it comes to driving, hence the need for organising eye tests for all the truck drivers. It is imperative for drivers not to relent in taking care of their sights as this is necessary for safety on our roads".

While laying emphasis on the rules of driving such as obeying the One-Way and BRT lane traffic rules, she noted with dismay that most drivers ignore the use of seat belt, pedestrian crossings and some other safety precautions while driving on Nigerian roads, which endanger the lives of road users and commuters on board and pedestrians.

Listing and explaining the four basic responsibilities of a driver, Tiamiyu said that the Institute success can only be measured by the attitudinal changes and conduct being exhibited by drivers on the road, therefore, enjoining the drivers to put into practice all the training acquired from the Institute seasoned instructors.

She appreciated the Truck Drivers for promptly renewing their recertification cards and charged them not to relent in their efforts at being better drivers, while encouraging them to spread the good tidings of the Institute among their colleagues who are yet to visit the Institute for training and certification.
