SANWO-OLU RESTORES CONFIDENCE OF MOTORING PUBLIC IN LASDRI As Agency Trains Over 102,000 Professional Drivers in Two Years
The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has restored confidence of the motoring public in the operations of the Lagos State DriversInstitute as it has recertified more than 102,000 Professional Drivers since the inception of the present administration in 2019.
The General Manager of LASDRI, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, who disclosed this while featuring on a Yoruba current affairs radio programme "Bosenlo" on Traffic Radio 96.1FM, noted that the timely initiative and response of the Governor to Traffic Management and Transportation across the State has brought great relief to the residents and the motoring public.
Highlighting the laudable impact of the Governor on the Institute, Tiamiyu said that Governor Sanwo-Olu has graciously approved and provided funds for the printing of LASDRI plastic recertification card, the reactivation of simulators and other working tools, noting that the gesture has a great impact on the achievements and success story of the Agency in recent times.
Her words: "The timely and supportive intervention rendered to LASDRI by Mr. Governor cannot be overemphasised. Presently, Governor Sanwo-Olu has approved our online training course, which will take off soon. Funds have also been approved for the review and reproduction of our Multi-Lingual Audio Visual Training CD at the Institute".
The General Manager noted that the Agency previously had only five Centres across the State, but it has now added four annexes to meet the training needs of professional drivers in Lagos, through the support of the present administration.
She also disclosed that plans are in top gear to build a state-of-the-art driving range where the Institute and Driving School Instructors will be collaborating to train First Line drivers.
Tiamiyu observed with satisfaction the increase in the number of Professional Drivers presenting themselves for mandatory training at the Institute, while the number of drivers asking for rehabilitation courses have reduced because of the impact of the training programmes for drivers, which is being put to practical use on the roads.
She, however, reiterated the need for the motoring public to undergo the annual drivers training programme at LASDRI which is mandatory, stressing that once a driver is trained, hundreds of road users’ lives are protected.
