The Director of Training Department, Lagos State Drivers' Institute, Mrs. Bolanle Tiamiyu has revealed that the Institute has opened a new operation centre at its headquarters in Oshodi to accommodate the large turnout of professional drivers coming to the Institute for the yearly mandatory training.

Tiamiyu, who disclosed this recently during a radio programme on Traffic Radio 96.1fm, Ikeja, reiterated that the drivers' Institute was compelled to make adequate provision for the new operation centre due to the sharp increase in the patronage by professional drivers in dire need of training now in comparison to the previous month.

According to her, "The total number of drivers that enrolled for training throughout the month of May was 2,178 as against 4,927 drivers in the month of June, 2019".

She explained that according to the dictates of the law which established the Institute, the Mandatory Drivers' training is a yearly programme for professional drivers, adding that the Institute has also reviewed its curriculum to accommodate the new traffic laws and penalties that are now in operation, in order to inform, educate and enlighten the drivers, while reducing traffic congestion and accidents on Lagos roads.

The Director also disclosed that the annual re-certification of LASDRI cards can be obtained at the various centres spread across the state for accessibility and that each of the centres is well-equipped both in human and material resources.

While reiterating that there are no short cuts to obtaining the card as every professional driver has to undergo the training annually before the card can be renewed, Tiamiyu advised all professional drivers in the state to learn, understand and obey all the various road signs and traffic laws in order to reduce reckless driving and drastic reduction in accidents on Lagos roads.
