In its quest to ensure optimal performance, sustainability and professionalism in the driving culture among all Professional Drivers, the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) has trained 51 drivers in the employment of the Lagos State Judiciary.
Speaking at the commencement of the training programme, the General Manager of the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu said the training is in compliance with the directives of the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, that all Lagos State Public Service Drivers undergo specialised training at the institute.
She said LASDRI is strictly committed to ensuring sanity on Lagos roads, hence the need for the training of all categories of drivers in the employment of both the Public and Private sectors.
The General Manager recalled that for some months now, the drivers’ Institute has been organising Mandatory and Structured Training Programmes for Professional Drivers, especially those in the Public Sector.
"Recently, we trained drivers from the Office of the First Lady and also those from the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy", she said.
Tiamiyu noted that there are clear indications from the enrollment of drivers for training by some government establishments that the Institute has a big role to play in order to achieve the desired objectives as outlined in its Traffic Management and Transportation pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda.
The LASDRI boss reiterated that the training demands that State government employees add value, enrich their driving skills, improve safety and strengthen the confidence reposed in them while on duty.
"This is a welcome development because it will send a positive signal to all other drivers on Lagos roads that it is compulsory to visit the Institute for their yearly Mandatory Training towards improving and updating their driving skills", she said.
While soliciting for the cooperation of the participants, Tiamiyu admonished the drivers to see this gesture as a golden opportunity to acquire more knowledge in driving, noting that the Institute will continually work tirelessly to develop various educative training topics that will eradicate carnage and improve the safe driving culture on Lagos roads.
