LASDRI TRAINS 81,821 PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS
The General Manager, Lagos State Drivers' Institute (LASDRI), Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu has revealed that the Institute trained 81,821 professional drivers since inception of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration.
She disclosed this while reflecting on the activities of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during a Yoruba radio magazine programme "Bosenlo", on Traffic Radio 96.1FM.
Tiamiyu commended Mr. Governor reforms and interventions designed to add value as well as reposition the Traffic Management and Transportation sector.
The General Manager said the success recorded in the transportation sector during the past 600 days was achieved through the genuine passion and concerns for the sector by the State government, adding that the Institute has really benefitted from the largesse and timely intervention of Mr. Governor since he assumed office in 2019.
In her words: "Before now, the Institute had a series of challenges that were hindering us from operating effectively. Our simulators were not in good condition, and printing of the LASDRI plastic recertification cards was being hindered due to lack of equipment and paucity of funds. We presented all these challenges to Mr. Governor and they were resolved".
"Many moribund and obsolete equipment of the Institute was replaced and reactivated to meet the modern-day challenges. The Lagos State Government has also made funds available for the Institute to produce training manuals for all professional drivers that present themselves at the Institute for training, and this has really improved the driving skills and knowledge of professional drivers across the State", she added.
She averred that Governor Sanwo-Olu huge investment in LASDRI is a pointer to the fact that the institute has a big role to play in changing the fortunes of public transportation and the sector as a whole.
Tiamiyu commended the influx of drivers to the Institute for training, attributing it to the support, enforcement and sensitisation campaign on the yearly mandatory training programmes and the transportation guidelines issued by the State Government.
The General Manager assured that the Institute will not rest on its oars until all drivers are well-schooled in the art of driving, saying the Agency had undertaken on-site training while ensuring that its drivers' service-platform is accessible to reduce any form of unanticipated surge for training at the Institute training centres across the State.
She, however, reiterated the need for drivers to consciously ensure that they practice a healthy lifestyle, take necessary safety precautions before driving a vehicle and exhibit good driving culture always.
