LASDRI CAUTIONS DRIVERS AGAINST OVER-SPEEDING
In an effort to reduce road accidents and carnage on Lagos roads during the yuletide season and beyond, General Manager, Lagos State Drivers' Institute, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu has called on all motorists, especially commercial drivers in the State, to shun over-speeding and over-loading of their vehicles for all trips.
Tiamiyu, who made the call during an interview on a Yoruba programme "Bosenlo", on Traffic Radio 96.1FM, noted that over-speeding kills and should be avoided while driving on the roads, explaining that excessive speed is one of the major causes of road accidents and carnage on roads across Lagos.
She reiterated the need for all drivers to avoid exceeding the approved speed limits saying, "When planning your journey, you need to put into consideration the delay you may encounter on the road, therefore leave your home at least two hours before your appointment so that you can meet up as scheduled without indulging in over-speeding", she said.
Mrs. Tiamiyu advised motorists to embrace all safety tips to ensure sanity on the road, stressing that they should avoid overloading, observe regular use of seat belts and ensure that sufficient distance exists between vehicles when driving.
While maintaining that the Institute will not relent in its efforts at improving the driving culture in the State, the General Manager disclosed that LASDRI has embarked on an aggressive enlightenment campaign towards total eradication of avoidable road accidents as well as ensuring the safety of lives and property of Lagosians.
She added that the efforts are also geared towards ensuring the re-training and re-certification of motorists, especially Professional drivers, pointing out that "it is our mandate to ensure they learn about their responsibilities to themselves, their vehicles, other road users and the government towards achieving road safety across the metropolis".
