LASDRI BOSS APPEALS TO PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS NOT TO "DRINK AND DRIVE"
The General Manager of the Lagos State Drivers' Institute, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, has appealed to all professional drivers in the State to avoid taking alcoholic beverages before embarking on any journey during and beyond the yuletide season.
Tiamiyu, who made the appeal while speaking on a pidgin radio programme "Lunch Tyme Waka", on Traffic Radio 96.1FM, noted that most commercial drivers indulge in consuming alcoholic drinks under the false impression that it will enhance their strength for long interstate journeys.
She stated that research has shown that drivers under the influence of alcoholic beverages could have blurry, unclear or impaired vision, resulting in misinterpretation and misjudgment of other motorists actions, delay in making swift decisions when necessary and road accidents.
Admonishing the motoring public to avoid over-speeding, shun road rage and always be patient with other drivers while on the roads, Mrs. Tiamiyu advised all road users to continue strict adherence to stipulated COVID-19 protocols and safety guidelines issued by the government.
The General Manager revealed that the institute has started developing new courses that will enhance the training curriculum for the year 2021 in educating and orientating all drivers, calling on all professional drivers to present themselves at any of LASDRI five training centres and three annexes spread across the State for their yearly mandatory training exercise.
Tiamiyu reiterated that part of the Lagos State Drivers Institute's mandate is to ensure that all professional drivers in the employment of both government and private organisations are trained, re-trained and re-certified at least once every year.
